Aspous
The picturesque coastal hamlet of Aspous is located on route from the port of Skyros to the main town of Chora. It is a hamlet with magnificent scenery, and one where the landscapes seem almost dreamlike – filled with colour and beauty.
According to mythology, the neighbouring bay of Achili, which is the small harbour for this region of Skyros, was the departure point of Achilles, when he set sail to Tory.
Aspous is a very beautiful part of Skyros, and a place where one can take a pleasant stroll around, admiring the charming scenery along the way. Visitors to the hamlet can pay a visit to the ceramic work shop, which continues to make beautiful ceramic objects.
There is also the small chapel of Agios Nikolaos in Achili that is well worth visiting if you have the opportunity.
Another chapel worth mentioning is that of Profitis Helias, which is located on the top of the mountain. From here you can admire the beautiful panoramic views stretching out as far as the eye can see.
Each year on the 20th July, a religious festival takes place, honouring the name day of the saint. Visitors to Skyros are more than welcome to come and join in with the celebrations, where you can enjoy food, drink and traditional music and dance.
You can find a nice choice of hotels in Aspous as well as some apartments and studios that are available for accommodation.
